In the world of business, repackaging the same product and renaming it is usually a successful practice. Unfortunately, that idea didn’t work out so well when the United States decided to “repackage and rename” torture as “enhanced interrogation techniques”. The Geneva Convention’s banned torture in any form for decades now, and it’s been brought back to in plain view of the public eye with America’s use of the waterboarding technique. Regardless of the moral implications of such practices, torture deals incredible physical and psychological trauma to the victim and the medical biller/coder must be aware of the symptoms such an occasion were to arise and present itself to flag it in course of your work. The following infographic will provide a little more insight into the statistics behind today’s perception of torture along with some historical context.
