RESIDENT EXPERT

Having worked in the medical field since the early 1980s, Jan Jacobs possesses a wealth of practical experience. She started out answering phones, filing, and mounting EKGs, but it was not long before she learned billing and coding and how to handle insurance claims for medical offices. Jacobs has worked for doctors in both primary care (pediatrics, family medicine, and gerontology) and specialty care (ENT and a multi-specialty practice that at one time had 13 doctors). She is employed as a senior medical biller and has been at her current job for nearly 10 years, where she uses three different billing systems. Outside of work, Jacobs is an active artist and was the 2009 Artist in Residence in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
